For the month of October, preliminary Classes 5-8 order data show the industry booked 32,400 net orders. Note that these numbers are preliminary. Complete industry data for October, to include final order numbers, will be published in mid-November.
“NA Classes 5-7 orders at 18,400 units, were down 10% from September and 18% compared to year ago October orders,” said Kenny Vieth, ACT’s President & Senior Analyst. Speaking on the heavy-duty sector, Vieth noted: “The month’s 13,900* net order reflects lingering overcapacity from too many Class 8 tractors being purchased relative to freight creation in 2015 and into early 2016.” As October is typically a strong order month for both MD and HD vehicles, seasonal adjustment adjusts actual volumes lower.
