Capital One announced a significant expansion to its Technology, Media and Telecom (TMT) business with the appointment of three senior professionals. Ray Shu will serve as Managing Director and Head of Originations for TMT and will be joined by direct reports Robert Malone, Managing Director, and Michael Rhea, Senior Vice President. The new additions will add to and build upon the strong foundation already established by Tom Pagnani, Managing Director. The TMT group will report into Al Aria, Senior Managing Director and Head of Capital One’s Commercial Banking Healthcare and TMT Corporate Finance businesses.

Prior to joining Capital One, Ray Shu served as Senior Managing Director and Team Leader for GE Capital’s Technology, Media & Telecom business. Shu previously worked with Bank of America Commercial Finance’s Healthcare Leveraged Finance Group, as well as with the Franchise Finance Group at NationsBank, N.A. Shu earned a BBA from the University of Georgia and an MBA from Georgia State University, and received his “Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)” designation in 1997.
Robert Malone most recently served as a Managing Director for GE Capital’s Technology, Media & Telecom business. In this role, he was responsible for originating, structuring and underwriting senior secured financings to sponsor-backed companies and corporate clients in various TMT sectors. Malone has over 20 years of corporate finance and banking experience and has covered the TMT sectors since 2001, both as an underwriter and originator. Malone previously worked for SunTrust Bank and Bank of America in a variety of roles. He holds a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University.
Michael Rhea was a Senior Vice President in GE Capital’s Technology, Media & Telecom business before joining Capital One. He has more than 18 years of corporate finance and banking experience and has covered the TMT sectors since 2003, both as an underwriter and originator. Rhea previously worked at Antares International Partners, executing cross-border M&A transactions. He began his career with SunTrust Bank in Atlanta. Rhea holds a BBA from the University of Georgia and an MBA from Georgia State University.
Capital One’s TMT business provides financing for corporate growth, mergers and acquisitions, balance sheet refinancings and recapitalizations to companies across the TMT sectors, including: application and infrastructure software, financial technology, cable, radio and television broadcasting, business information services and data analytics, educational media and services, entertainment media and communications infrastructure. The TMT business also provides a full range of other services including loan syndication, treasury management, capital market products, and institutional asset management.
