Crestmark Creates National SBA Division, Adds Key Hires

May 02, 2014, 07:03 AM

Crestmark announced the expansion of their SBA loan products with the creation of a division focused entirely on national SBA finance. Crestmark has been offering SBA loans as a compliment to their core client base of small- to medium-sized businesses for many years. Crestmark’s decision to form this niche division will further cultivate their SBA capabilities, providing clients with creative capital solutions while maintaining high-quality service.

This strategic and dedicated national expansion has been enhanced by the addition of three talented and experienced individuals. Jack Talkington, Senior Vice President, will oversee the division. Joining Jack are Christopher R. Soupal, Vice President, National Sales Director; and David Maiuri, Vice President, Director of Underwriting and Account Services.

Talkington has been with Crestmark since 2008, and has extensive experience as a business leader, from startups to established companies. He successfully led several Crestmark national growth initiatives from concept to completion, and prior to that, was a founding partner in Commercial Capital Lending.

Soupal joins Crestmark with the responsibility for development of the SBA product portfolio. He brings more than 17 years of diverse experience comprised of origination, underwriting and management for loan products consisting of senior, second lien and subordinated debt within the performing and distressed sectors. Prior to Crestmark Bank, Soupal was Managing Director for a special opportunity fund which provided creative capital solutions, in the form of debt or equity, to platforms in niche industries. Soupal holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Ferris State University and is currently enrolled in the Executive Program in Business Administration at the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza School of Business.

Maiuri joined the Crestmark team in 2008 and has excelled in numerous credit / risk management positions. Prior to Crestmark, he worked with First National Bank of America and LaSalle Bank; he has a B.A. from Michigan State University and an MBA from Michigan State University’s Executive Program.

“This is a smart and motivated team,” said Mick Goik, Crestmark Bank President. “I can’t say enough about how Jack’s expertise has been an invaluable asset to our organization; Dave has proven himself to be an astute and hard worker, and Christopher’s unique experience, knowledge and high-energy personality will be perfect to lead this venture into the market nationwide.”

“Crestmark continues to proactively look for creative vehicles to further assist our target market,” said Talkington. “The enhanced features and benefits of SBA financing, along with the fact that the SBA continues to expand and provide more flexibility in their structure, makes this an ideal time for us to enhance our SBA offerings to the small- to medium-sized business community.”

“Crestmark understands how small business owners need an actionable and timely working capital solution,” said Soupal. “We look forward to working closely with companies to develop a quick solution and timely approval.”
