Lancaster Online reported two defendants in the Equipment Finance Inc. fraud case were sentenced Thursday to a year and a day in prison for their roles in the fraud.

Misty Kroesen and her husband, Curtis, were sentenced by U.S. District Judge Paul Diamond in Philadelphia. Last April, Misty Kroesen pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud affecting a financial institution. Her husband pleaded guilty at that time to one count of mail fraud affecting a financial institution. By pleading guilty the couple avoided going to trial on five counts of fraud.

Both Kroesens were ordered to pay full restitution of the $53 million financial loss caused by the scam, according to the report.

Curtis Kroesen was an account executive and Misty Kroesen an accounting clerk at EFI, a defunct West Airport Road firm. EFI, part of Sterling Financial Corp., was a lender serving land-clearing and logging firms.
