Bloomberg reported that General Electric distanced itself from a report that it might consider spinning off GE Capital. As reported yesterday by Dow Jones, Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Immelt told business leaders in Sydney that he’d “never say never” about a spinoff of GE Capital.  According to the report, GE spokesman Russell Wilkerson said Immelt never implied a spinoff was under consideration.

His comments were taken out of context in the Dow Jones report, Wilkerson said.

The Bloomberg report cites a Dow Jones spokeswoman saying the story presented Immelt’s comments correctly citing that the headline and story give the proper context around the CEO’s comments.
