Appreciation of a True Industry Leader
By John C. Deane, CEO, The Alta Group
On January 23, 2014 the leasing industry lost an exceptional leader: Robert L. Krause, one of the most influential executives in equipment finance. An associate of The Alta Group since 2008, Bob was an early board member of the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association (ELFA). He was founder and first president of the Eastern Association of Equipment Lessors (EAEL), which honored him with its Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his years of leadership, ethical treatment of employees and customers, and significant contributions to the leasing industry and EAEL.
An industry icon, Bob brought enormous energy to his work. He truly enjoyed meeting challenges and helping companies thrive. Many leading lessors today were Bob's clients during their early years, and in some part owe their success to his support.
Today's equipment finance industry is in gratitude to Bob for his dedication, enthusiasm and leadership by example. Beyond his professional contributions, Bob has been a good friend to many of us in the industry. We will miss him deeply – and wish all the best to his family in this difficult time.
While born in Berlin, Germany, Bob came to America as child and became a long-time resident of New York. He is survived by his wife, Susan Laufer, daughters Ann (Krause) Galler and Janet (Krause) van der Veen, son Frederic Krause and step-son Jonathan Laufer, their partners and spouses, and four grandchildren. Contributions in Bob's memory can be made to the giver's charity of choice.
