New orders for manufactured goods in September, up three consecutive months, increased $1.4 billion or 0.3% to $453.5 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau reported. This followed a 0.1% August increase. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 1.3%.
New orders for manufactured durable goods in September, down following two consecutive monthly increases, decreased $1.2 billion or 0.6% to $201.0 billion, revised from the previously published 0.8 % decrease. This followed a 0.1% August increase.
New orders for transportation equipment, also down following two consecutive monthly increases, had the largest decrease, $3.8 billion or 7.1% to $49.9 billion.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods in September, down following four consecutive monthly increases, decreased $1.3 billion or 0.6% to $200.2 billion, revised from the previously published 0.7% decrease. This followed a 0.1% August increase.
Shipments of transportation equipment, down two consecutive months, decreased $1.1 billion or 2.4% to $45.8 billion.
Inventories of manufactured durable goods in September, up twenty one consecutive months, increased $0.4 billion or 0.1% to $365.6 billion, unchanged from the previously published increase. This was at the highest level since the series was first published on a NAICS basis and followed a 0.9% August increase.
Transportation equipment inventory, also up twenty one consecutive months, had the largest increase, $0.5 billion or 0.4% to $112.8 billion.
