WSJ: PC Sales Demonstrate Steepest Drop Since 2001

The Wall Street Journal reported that PC sales are declining, triggered by factors that include the growing market for tablet computers and sluggish economic conditions.

According to the report, researchers IDC and Gartner IT said PC shipments in the third quarter fell more than 8% from a year earlier, demonstrating the steepest drop since at least 2001.  The WSJ also cites a third report, from IHS iSuppli, that projected PC shipments for the full year would decline for the first time in 11 years.

The third quarter slowdown was a surprise according to the report.
