ABOUT SSAE 16

As of June 15, 2011, SSAE 16 superseded SAS 70 as the audit standard for service organization auditors. SSAE 16 was adopted by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in an effort to establish a more uniform reporting standard.

Specifically, SSAE 16 is an attestation standard geared towards addressing engagements conducted by  third party auditors on service organizations for purposes of reporting on the design of controls and their operating effectiveness. As such, SSAE 16 engagements conducted by service auditors on service organizations will result in the issuance of an SSAE 16 report.
